September 30th Update

Dear Parents/Guardians;

Please read the weekly update for September 30th, 2019.

Curriculum Night/BBQ

We are very excited to announce that Curriculum Night will take place on Thursday, October 3rd.  The format of the evening will be as follows:

5:15-6:30     Family BBQ – meet and greet with staff
6:35-7:00     Session 1 in classrooms
7:05-7:25     Session 2 in classrooms

Parents are encouraged to attend one of the two sessions.  These are sessions are meant to be meet and greet opportunities for parents.  Teachers will display and discuss curriculum as well as share other class specific information.  Please note that these sessions are not meant to be parent teacher interviews.  

Please see the attached BBQ order form – Note that we have extended the deadline to purchase  a combo. You must pre-order your food combo by Sunday September 29th.  We are encouraging you to purchase your food online at  https://tcdsb.schoolcashonline.comFood will not be available for purchase on Curriculum Night.

Orange T-shirt Day

On Monday, September 30th St. Leo will celebrate Orange T-shirt day.  All students are encouraged to wear an orange t-shirt to support Indigenous people in Canada.  Students should still be in dress code pants/shorts and students who do not have an orange t-shirt should still be in full uniform. 

 

CSPC

Our first CSPC meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 2nd beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the library.  All are welcome to attend.

Taste of the Arts

On Wednesday, October 2nd our Grade 7 students will travel to Father John Redmond to participate in The Taste of the Arts.  On Thursday, October 3rd the grade 8 students will be given the same opportunity.  This a great experience for our students as they get a firsthand look at the wonderful programs offered at Father John Redmond.  

Pizza Day

Pizza Day orders are available online at https://tcdsb.schoolcashonline.com until Wednesday, October 2nd.  The first pizza day will Wednesday, October 9th. 

 

Civvies Day

A reminder that Civvies Day payment for the year can still be made online at  https://tcdsb.schoolcashonline.com.  There are a total of 18 Civvies Days throughout the year and are only collecting payment for 15.

September 23rd

Opening School Mass
Our first school mass will take place on Tuesday, September 24th at 9:30 a.m.  This will be a joint mass with St. Louis Catholic School. 

Boys and Girls Softball Tournaments
Our senior boys’ softball team will participate in their tournament on Wednesday, September 25th at Etobicoke Valley Park.  The girls’ softball team will participate in their tournament on Thursday, September 26th at Etobicoke Valley Park.  The rain date for both days is Friday, September 27th.  Good luck to our players and coaches.

Grade 7 Immunization
On Wednesday, September 25th Toronto Public Health will be at the school to complete Immunization for our Grade 7 students.  Please make sure that all forms have been signed and returned.

Civvies Day
Please find attached the Civvies Day schedule for the 2019-2020 school year.  We will hold 18 civvies days throughout the year but will only be charging for 15.  Parents will have the option of paying for all 15 civvies days online at https://tcdsb.schoolcashonline.com or pay $1 each time.  Please refer to the attachment for theme days and special donation days.

Pizza lunch orders will begin in the near future.  Pizza lunch will once again take place on Wednesdays.  Please stay tuned for more information.

Nutrition Program

St. Leo is pleased to once again be offering a daily nutrition program to all of our students.  In October we will be asking for our parents to make a donation to help support this wonderful program.  Please stay tuned for more information. 

Math Initiatives
St. Leo’s is pleased to be offering a variety of math contests. Please see the attachment for details regarding grade and age requirements and costs. If you are interested, we ask that you please submit payment online. Should you have any questions, please contact Ms. Figueiredo.

Lunch Time Programs

Arts Express
Arts Express Drawing and Sketching forms have been distributed to students in grades 1-8.  Please return forms and payment as soon as possible. The classes will run during the lunch period starting on October 18th.

Lego Club
Lego Club information will be available for our Grade 1-3 students next week, with a start date in October.

Choir
Choir practice will take place Friday’s during lunch recess from 11:45-12:15. 

First Communion and Confirmation
First Communion will take place on Sunday, May 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at St. Leo’s Church.  Confirmation will take place on Sunday, April 26th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Leo’s Church.  Confirmation will be a shared sacrament between St. Leo and St. Louis.

Agenda Money

This is a reminder that Agenda money for students in Grades 1-8 is due Friday, September 20th.  The cost of the agenda is $10.00.  Parents are encouraged to pay on-line at KEV school cash online.  Please note that some of our French Immersion classes agenda’s have been delayed, but will be delivered the week of September 23rd. 

 

CSPC

Our first Catholic School Parent Council Meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 18th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the school library.  The meeting will consist of our Annual General Meeting (AGM) as well as the voting for the new executive.  All are welcome!

High School Open Houses

Parents of grade 7 and 8 students.  Please see the attachment regarding dates of times of High School Open Houses.  I encourage you to go to the Open Houses to learn more about the programs offered at the different High Schools.

Early Pick Up

If you require early pick up for your child please come to the office.  The office will arrange for your child to be brought to the office to meet you.  You will be asked to sign out your child in the Student Sign In/Sign Out binder.

September 6- Weekly Update

Dear Parents and Guardians:

In order to provide greater communication to our parent community, we will be providing weekly updates on Friday that outline activities and reminders for the upcoming week.  Please read the weekly update for September 9th, 2019.

Thank you for an amazing first week at St. Leo.  I appreciate your cooperation and understanding with regards to our morning routines.  Safety will continue to be priority for the staff and school.  I look forward to meeting all of you in the upcoming weeks.

Inclement Weather Morning Procedures

In case of inclement weather in the morning, students will be allowed to enter the school.  Teachers will be at three entrance points to allow students into the school (front door, Junior Playground Doors, and Primary Yard Entrance Door closest to the triple hoop).  Kindergarten students will go directly to their classrooms.  Students in Grades 1-8 will take direction from the teachers as to whether to go to the gym or to their classroom.  Parents are permitted to walk their child to the appropriate entrance door. 

Softball Tryouts

Boys and Girls Softball Tryouts will begin next week for students in Grades 5-8 interested in the Intermediate Softball Team.  Girls tryouts will take place Monday and Wednesday afterschool from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00-9:00 a.m.   Boys tryouts will take place on Tuesday and Thursday afterschool from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Monday and Wednesday morning from 8:00-9:00 a.m.  Forms have been distributed and students must return their form in order to participate.

Cross Country Running Club

The St. Leo Cross Country Running Club will begin on Monday, September 9th at 8:00 a.m for interested students in Grades 3-8.  Forms were distributed today and students must return their form in order to participate.  Practices will take place every morning Rain or Shine until the Meet which will take place on Monday, October 7th.  In case of rain, practices will take place in the gymnasium.
