May 3rd Newsletter

Hello St Leo Community,

This week has given us so many reasons to be proud and grateful:

Congratulations to our Grade 2s who made their first communion today.  Thank you also to all of the teachers that worked so hard to get the children ready for this sacrament.

Congratulations to Mrs. Ugrin.  A few weeks ago I shared with you that Mrs. Ugrin had been nominated by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) for Educational Leader of the Year Award 2019.  This past week, Mrs. Ugrin became the recipient of this award.  Well done Mrs. Ugrin!

Congratulations to the Junior Girls Basketball Team who came in 3rd place at the tournament this past week.  Thank you to Ms. Lehane, Ms. Gaughan, Ms. Magsila and Coach Blair for coaching the girls leading up to the tournament.  Thanks also to St Leo alumni Mason Flores who came back to coach the girls along with Grade 7 Junior Coaches Ella and Oyin.  What a team effort!

Congratulations to the St Leo swim team.  Over the past two days, our swimmers made St Leo proud in so many ways.   The swimmers had a great showing in the preliminaries and many athletes moved on to the finals today.  They swam their hearts out and the team returned home with a cache of medals including:

Freestyle:  Laila – 2nd place, Nolan – 3rd place

Backstroke:  Abby – 3rd place, Laila – 3rd place

Breaststroke:  Reid – 3rd place, Nolan – 3rd place

Relay – Girls 9 years old:  Charlotte, Isabella, Jona, Laila – 3rd place

Relay – Boys 9 year old:  Nolan, Carter, Damon, Fintan – 3rd place

Relay – Mixed:  Abby, Laila, Reid, Tony – 1st place

Thanks to Coach Jackie, Coach Blair, Coach Claire and St Leo alumni Coach Jackson for all their efforts with the swimmers these past few months.  Thanks to Coach Andrea for keeping the swimmers nerves at bay in the bleachers this weekend and thanks to the parents who volunteered on the deck as swim meet officials.

Best wishes to all the students participating in the Track and Field meet taking place on Friday May 10th at Centennial.  Go Lions Go!!!
