April 26th Newsletter

Hello St Leo Community,

Congratulations to our Grade 7s who had their Confirmation today.  Thanks to teachers who spent so much time planning this event and getting the students ready.

Congratulations to the St. Leo’s Ice-Hockey Team for a terrific season! This year’s team showed tremendous dedication, earning them the title of FINALISTS in a hard fought championship game against St. Nobert two weeks ago.  Great job everyone!

Best wishes to the Junior Girls Basketball team who will compete in the tournament at St. Wilfrid on Tuesday April 30th. Go Lions Go!

Best wishes to our Swim Team who will be competing in the swim meet next weekend.  Go Lions Go!

Thank you to everyone who made the silent auction a success on Friday night.  Thanks to the parents who solicited donations, set up the event, tore down the event, spread the news with the press and social media, bought the balloons (great balloons by the way) and chips, counted the money, printed tickets, sold tickets, kept track of tickets, ran the games and came to auction to spend their hard earned money in support of St Leo C.S.

Thank you to the teachers who came out to the auction on Friday.  Thank you to Mrs. Ugrin, Ms. Lehane, Ms. Gaughan, Mme. Hunter, Ms. Arbour, Ms. Mullin, Ms. Carnovale, Ms. Dorgan and Ms. Palacio.  Special thanks to Ms. Ryan who used her great lung capacity to run one of the games.  It means a lot to us to have the teachers come out to support us.  Thank you!

Why is the auction and all the fundraising we do important?  If your child has been on a field trip over the last few years, funds from the CSPC have paid for the bus.  If your child has participated in Cross Country or Track and Field, s/he has travelled on a bus paid for by CSPC.  If your child has participated in any school sports team, s/he has used balls or equipment paid for by the CSPC.  If your child has graduated or has been confirmed or had his/her first Holy Communion, CSPC funds have supported these events.  If your child has used an iPad at school, more than likely it has been an iPad paid for by CSPC funds.  If your child has made a smoothie in the ME class, s/he has done so in a blender paid for by the CSPC.  There is no student in the school, not one, that has not benefitted from the fundraising that the CSPC does throughout the year.  To all those parents who support the CSPC fundraising activities – thank you.  All of our students are benefitting.

Below are all the updates you need for the coming weeks:

  1. The Tiny Toy Drive concludes Monday April 29th.  In a further effort to bring awareness to the problem of waste, the Eco club has been participating in a Tiny Toy Drive.  Please see attached flyer.  You are encouraged to bring in unwanted tiny plastic toy debris (must fit in the palm of your hand, must be recognizable).  The Eco club has partnered with Tiny Toy Co. which uses these unwanted toys (toy pieces) to create literacy instead of litter.  The collected toy debris will be donated to Tiny Toy Co. to be used in a variety of learning workshops in schools and other community programs.  Please read over the attached document outlining toys that can be reused and more ways for kids to tackle toy waste!

  2. The May CSPC meeting will be held on May 1st at 6:30 in the staff room.

  3. Friday, May 3rd is the Angel Foundation for Learning civvies day "May the Fourth Be with You" Star Wars civvies day? Students and staff are encouraged to donate $2.00 or more to the Foundation.
