December 7 Newsletter

Hello St Leo Community

Don’t forget St. Leo C.S. is hosting a presentation for Parents/Guardians on Internet Awareness and Safety by Paul Davis tomorrow evening - Monday December 10th at 6:30 PM – in the school gym.  Paul Davis, is a well-known expert in the area of cyber bullying and internet safety.  His message is direct, poignant and very important for students and parents alike.  We hope to see many of you tomorrow night.

Below are all the updates you need for the coming weeks:

  1. Calling all basketball families.  The Raptors 905 fundraiser is on.  Flyers will be sent home in backpacks this week.  The game is on January 26th and tickets are on sale now for $25.  Tickets can be purchased through cash on-line (www.schoolcashonline.com), or you can send cash or a cheque to the school with your child.  Please write cheques to St. Leo CSPC.

  2. Pizza order forms for the January, February and March will be coming home with children on Monday.  Look for the yellow form in backpacks.  Orders are due by December 17th.  Late orders cannot be accepted for any reason after due date.

  3. Pssst – don’t tell the teachers and staff … The St Leo CSPC is hosting the annual Teacher and Staff Appreciation breakfast on December 19th between 8:00 and 9:00 AM.  We are looking for food donations and volunteers to serve it all up.  If you plan to drop food off and/or volunteer, please let me know.  I will keep a running list so we know that we have enough volunteers and that we have a variety of breakfast foods.  Please remember that St Leo is an allergen aware school.  Please do not bring food with nuts in them.

  4. A reminder that during the winter months, students should have a pair of indoor shoes to wear at school, in the classroom and in the gym for physical education classes.  Outdoor shoes/boots will be kept for outdoor use only (e.g. out of the classroom), in order to reduce the amount of dirt, sand and mud brought indoors.  This will assist our custodial staff in keeping the classrooms and corridors clean and safe for everyone.

  5. Speaking of winter months … it is cold outside and children go out for recess and the lunch break.  Please make sure your kids are dressed appropriately for the cold weather – including a hat, mitts, scarf and warm winter coat.

  6. Kindergarten Registration in Toronto Catholic Schools begins January 16, 2019.  Children born in 2015 are eligible for kindergarten starting in September 2019.  Parents can complete their application online beginning on January 16th at 10 AM at SOAR.tcdsb.org, and follow up with a visit to the school to present the required documents. The online application is available 24 hours.

  7. In person evening kindergarten registration in the St Leo C.S. school office is also available on Wednesday January 23rd at 5:30 PM.

Reminders in case you missed them the first time:

  1. The St Leo Advent celebrations will take place on December 18th

    • St Leo Kindergarten Students’ Advent Celebration takes place at 1:00 PM in the church.  All are welcome and encourage to come.

    • The Advent Mass and celebration for Grades 1-3 will take place at 6:30 PM in the church.  Children are asked to arrive at the school gym, in costume, by 6:00 PM.  The door of the church will be open at that time for parents to take a seat.

    • December’s Virtue of the Month is Ch arity.  Accordingly, in lieu of admission tickets, we are asking families to please bring in new socks for donation to shelters.  There will be a basket to collect sock donations at the main entrance of the church at both events.

  2. The annual Hat and Mitten Tree collection is underway.  St Leo is decorating the tree in the office with donations of new mittens, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, ear muffs, headbands and other cold weather gear.  All donations will be delivered to the St Vincent de Paul society.
