December 14th Newsletter

Hello St Leo Community,

St Leo parents are hosting the annual Teacher and Staff Appreciation breakfast on December 19th between 8:00 and 9:00 AM.  We are looking for food donations and volunteers to serve it all up.  If you plan to drop food off and/or volunteer, please let me know ASAP.  I am keeping a running list so we know that we have enough volunteers and that we have a variety of breakfast foods.  Please remember that St Leo is an allergen aware school.  Please do not bring foods with nuts in them.

Below are all the updates you need for the coming weeks:

  1. Calling all basketball families.  The Raptors 905 fundraiser is on.  Flyers will be sent home in backpacks this week (see also attached).  The game is on January 26th and tickets are on sale now for $25.  Tickets can be purchased through cash on-line (www.schoolcashonline.com), or you can send cash or a cheque to the school with your child.  Please write cheques to St. Leo CSPC.  Tickets purchased before January 11th will count towards the prize for the class that sells the most tickets.  This Christmas, give the gift of basketball!!

  2. Pizza order forms for the January, February and March are due tomorrow, Monday December 17th.  Late orders cannot be accepted for any reason after due date.

  3. The last Virtue Assembly of the year will be held on Friday December 21st.

  4. Friday December 21st is also a Civvies Day.  Don’t forget your twoonie.

Reminders in case you missed them the first time:

  1. The St Leo Advent celebrations will take place on December 18th

    • St Leo Kindergarten Students’ Advent Celebration takes place at 1:00 PM in the church.  All are welcome and encourage to come.

    • The Advent Mass and celebration for Grades 1-3 will take place at 6:30 PM in the church.  Children are asked to arrive at the school gym, in costume, by 6:00 PM.  The door of the church will be open at that time for parents to take a seat.

    • December’s Virtue of the Month is Charity.  Accordingly, in lieu of admission tickets, we are asking families to please bring in new socks for donation to shelters.  There will be a basket to collect sock donations at the main entrance of the church at both events.

  2. The annual Hat and Mitten Tree collection is underway.  St Leo is decorating the tree in the office with donations of new mittens, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, ear muffs, headbands and other cold weather gear.  All donations will be delivered to the St Vincent de Paul society.

  3. Kindergarten Registration in Toronto Catholic Schools begins January 16, 2019.  Children born in 2015 are eligible for kindergarten starting in September 2019.  Parents can complete their application online beginning on January 16th at 10 AM at SOAR.tcdsb.org, and follow up with a visit to the school to present the required documents. The online application is available 24 hours.

  4. In person evening registration in the St Leo C.S. office is also available on Wednesday January 23rd at 5:30 PM.

  5. A reminder that during the winter months, students should have a pair of indoor shoes to wear at school.  Outdoor shoes/boots will be kept for outdoor use only.

  6. Please make sure your kids are dressed appropriately for the cold weather – including a hat, mitts, scarf and warm winter coat.

This is the last newsletter of 2018.  I wish you all a blessed and safe Christmas with your families.  See you in 2019.
