October 26 Newsletter

Hello St Leo Community!

Congratulations to Maya, Isabella, Jack and Fintan for making us all proud at the Cities Cross Country meet this past week.  What a great season.  Many thanks to the teachers who have been coaching the cross country team five days a week since the beginning of September.  High fives to Mlle. Hunter, Mr. Punter, Ms. Dorgan, Ms. Ryan, Ms. Palacio, Mme. Simas and Mr. Vlasschaert!

Congratulations to Claire McMullan who has been nominated by her peers for the OAPCE Parent Volunteer of Excellence award.  For many years St. Leo has been able to rely on Claire to support all manner of activities at the school.  In fact, the existence of the daily nutrition program at St. Leo is largely due to Claire’s hard work several years ago.  If you would like to cheer Claire on, the awards ceremony will be held on Tuesday, November the 6th at 6:00 p.m., at the TCDSB offices (80 Sheppard Avenue East - 2nd floor Atrium).  We are lucky to have you Claire.  Thank you for all that you do!

Below are all the updates you need for the coming weeks:

  1. Flyers for the St Leo fundraising/community event with the Marlies on December 2nd were sent home in back packs on Friday (also attached).  Tickets are priced at $25.00.  Tickets include an after game skate on the Marlies’ ice.   Please fill in the form and return it to the school with funds, or purchase your tickets on-line (www.schoolcashonline.com).  If you use the cash on-line system – please still send in your order form to the school so we can line up $ with names for issuing tickets.

  2. The intermediate volley ball teams have an exhibition game on November 1st against John English.

  3. High School Applications are due in the school office by Tuesday October 30th

  4. Students are allowed to wear costumes on Halloween Day but must come to school in costume as they will not have the opportunity to change once at school.  No masks or props (weapons, wands, broom sticks, etc.) are allowed.  Costumes must be Catholic School appropriate and also must not be threatening for younger children.  As we are an allergen aware school, please do not send FOOD TREATS for your child to share at the Halloween class party.  There are many alternatives, such as pencils, small toys and stickers.

Reminders in case you missed them the first time:

  1. The See Hear Vision Clinic will be held on October 29th and October 30th.

  2. For the month of October the school is holding a food drive for the ‘Me to We' "We Scare Hunger" initiative.  Please drop your non-perishable food items in the boxes outside the office at school.

  3. The Angel Foundation is holding its annual “Feed the Soul Gala” on November 9th at the Riviera Event Centre in Vaughan.  Tickets on sale now.  More information can be found at www.angelfoundationforlearning.org

Cheers, Fiona
