October 12 Newsletter

Hello St Leo Community!

  • What a big week for St. Leo’s Lion at the Cross Country meet this week!  We won't have the official list until Monday morning, but we're estimating that out of the 40 participants, 10-15 runners will be advancing to the Regional meet this week. Three top ten finishes!  Congratulations to ALL the runners and thanks for making us so proud!

  • A reminder to parents and guardians who drive when dropping and picking up their children at school.  Please drive and park responsibly.  No double parking.  No leaving children unattended in cars.  No leaving cars running.  For the sake of all of our children, please use common sense and obey the street and parking signs.  Make good choices. Make safe choices.  The parking enforcement officers have been policing our school area this past week and we expect to continue to see them going forward.

Below are all the updates you need for the coming weeks:

  1. The Cross Country Regionals meet is on October 18th at Centennial Park.  Best wishes to all the students who will be competing.  Go Lions Go!!

  2. We will be holding a spirit wear sale on Wednesday, October 24th between 7:00 pm and 8:30 pm at the school.   Sample sizes for T-shirts and hoodies will be available to try on so you can place your order.  Hoodies are $35 (with or without a zip) and t-shirts are between $15 and $26 depending on fabric and sleeve style.

  3. For the month of October the school is holding a food drive for the ‘Me to We' "We Scare Hunger" initiative.  Please drop your non-perishable food items in the boxes outside the office at school.

  5. The Ontario government has launched its promised consultation and is encouraging all members of our school communities to provide feedback on the education system in Ontario.  All parents have the opportunity to submit their viewpoint by the consultation closing date of December 15, 2018.  There are three ways for people to participate:

    • An online submission form, available now, that allows people, organizations or groups to provide their views on any of the consultation topics. Submissions can also be sent to the ministry by emailing fortheparents@ontario.ca  or auservicedesparents@ontario.ca.

    • An online survey that will be available soon in English and French, with questions that relate to the key themes below.

    • Telephone town halls across Ontario, with separate town halls in English and French. The telephone town hall discussions will be aligned with the themes discussed in the survey. The dates and times of these town halls will be posted on fortheparents.ca as they become available.

Reminders in case you missed them the first time:

  1. Cookie dough orders and money are due back to the school by Wednesday October 17th.  Fulfilled orders will be delivered on Thursday November 17th - which lines up with parent teacher interviews - so parents can pick up the cookie dough that evening.  All funds raised will be going back to your children via the nutrition program and other important programs.
