Weekly CSPC Newsletter September 25th

Good evening St. Leo Community!

A funny thing happened at last week’s parent council meeting.  I left the meeting as your new Chair!  Yikes!  I certainly have huge shoes to fill.  Michelle has been a super star Chair these past two years.  I will do my best to keep us all moving forward and I am very grateful that Michelle has agreed to stay on as Vice Chair and provide lots of guidance.

Here are the reminders and updates you need for the week:

Our online store for spirit wear is up and running! http://www.tshirtsondemand.ca/st_leo    Sweatshirts, hoodies etc feature our new school crest designed by our students as well as golf shirts with the St. Leo name.  Note there are sizes for students, teachers and parents.  The final order date for this first batch is Friday, October 28th.  Clothing will be delivered approx. two weeks after that.  For those who would prefer to do a manual order or to try on sample sizes, Ms LeBlanc will be available in the office on Fridays from 2:30p.m. -3:30p.m.  beginning Friday September 30th.

Our 2nd annual Curriculum Night and Community Carousel is on Wednesday October 5th.  The carousel will run from 5:30p.m. - 6:30p.m. where we will have a used uniform sale as well as try-on samples for the Online store mentioned above. Ms. McMullan will be there to answer any questions you may have about the Nutrition program as well as other Mimico resources and organizations aimed to assist in a well-rounded education for your child.   Meet the teachers and introductions will take place from 6:30p.m.-  7:30p.m.

From 7:30p.m. - 8:30p.m. we will have a parenting guest speaker.  Kylah Connolly, from the Parent Education Network, will join us and provide a presentation on "Building Confidence In Our Kids".  She will cover topics such as a) Learn how to effectively encourage your child, b) Build on their strengths, and c) Increase their autonomy.  Certainly worth sticking around till the very end of Curriculum Night.

Are your kids losing their school items already?  Mabels Labels are AMAZING and stick to anything.  Visit the website http://www.mabelslabels.com   then click the “Support A Fundraiser” button located on the top of your screen, and then select St. Leo from the drop-down list.   A portion of your purchase will go back to the school.

Do you have any uniform clothing that your child has outgrown and that you would like to donate to the preloved uniform sale at Curriculum Night.  Please drop off items to the school office.

The 1st Parent Council meeting took place last week.  The next meeting will be October 12th.  We are always excited to see new faces at our council meetings and I encourage you to join us when you can.  If you can’t make the meeting but are interested in the discussion, the minutes from the meetings are posted on http://www.stleoparentcouncil.org  usuallywithin two weeks of the meeting.

The Boards’ Safe Schools Advisory Committee is seeking 2 parents to serve for the 2016-2017 academic year.  Interested parents can view the criteria and download an application from the Board’s website under the “Parents” tab.  There are 4 meetings per year and they run from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Catholic Education Centre.

Our 4th Annual St. Leo Cleanup Drive is tentatively scheduled for November 2nd, 2016 from 9:15a.m. - 10:30a.m.   In keeping with our commitment to environmental responsibility, students will seek pledges and as a school community we will clean up the streets of Mimico. Funds raised will go to much needed resources at the school.  Details and pledge forms will be sent home via your child's backpack in the next few weeks. We are seeking parent volunteers to assist teachers and staff with supervision during the cleanup! Please respond to this email if you are able to help.

For those of you who order from the Lunch Lady, please note that “she” is no longer providing utensils with meals.  Make sure you send some to school with your child on those days.

Claire McMullin who runs the Nutrition Program is always looking for volunteers to prep for the following day.  Many hands makes light work.  If you can volunteer regularly or even only once, we would be grateful for your support.  You can reach Claire directly to discuss and set up a time at claire_mcmullan@yahoo.ca.

I hope the week goes well for everyone and always feel free to contact me if ever you have concerns … or just want to share some great ideas.
