St Leo Weekly Newsletter - week ending Nov 4th

Good evening St. Leo Community

I hope everyone had a great week.

Treaty Recognition Week will take place throughout Ontario from November 6th through November 12th.  St Leo Catholic School will begin everyday by acknowledging that this school is situated upon traditional territories.  The territories include the Ojibway/Chippewa, Huron- Wendat, Anishinabek Nation, the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy, the Mississaugas Nation, and the Metis Nation.  St. Leo’s is on land that was part of the original Toronto Purchase, Treaty 13, originally agreed upon in 1787, and revisited in 1805.  We recognize the enduring presence of Aboriginal Peoples on this land.

Below are the reminders and updates you need for next week.

So much good news this week!

  1. Congratulations to the Intermediate Boys' Volleyball team for their win against St. Elizabeth during Tuesday's exhibition game! We have high hopes for our team this year and congratulate them for their skill and teamwork.

  2. Best of luck to both the Boys' and Girls' Volleyball teams who will compete at the Divisionals November 8th and 9th, respectively. Go Lions!

  3. Clean-Up Day was a great success!  We couldn’t have asked for better weather.  Thanks to the students for all their hard work and thanks to all the staff and parents who supported this activity.  It was great to see new faces in the parent volunteers.  Thanks for your help! We raised a net total of $2625.86.  The award for highest amount raised and highest number of sponsors will be announced next week.

  4. Pizza Day is back!!  Thanks so much to St Leo parent Marion Camilleri who has made all the arrangements and to Mrs. Figueiredo’s Grade 6 class who will be assisting with pizza delivery.  We can’t do these things without volunteers.  Thank you!  The first pizza day will be this coming Wednesday (Nov 9th).

  5. Congratulations to St Leo parent, Michelle Nolden-Szarka who has been nominated for the Ontario Association of Parents in Catholic Education (OAPCE) Toronto Parent Volunteer of Excellence Award.  The ceremony will take place at the TCDSB offices (80 Sheppard Avenue East) on November 7 at 6:00 pm.  All are welcome.  Good luck Michelle.  You deserve it.

  1. The St Leo Children’s Choir will be singing this Sunday (Nov 6th) at the 11:30 am mass. Come hear why Father Frank is raving about these choristers.  Thank you to Mrs. Shaw who makes the choir possible.

  2. The online store for spirit wear is open untilFriday, November 18th.  Clothing will be delivered approximately two weeks later.  If you would prefer to do a manual order or to try on sample sizes, Ms. LeBlanc will be available in the office on Fridays from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm.  Additionally, we are offering one more evening try-on opportunity on November 10th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Keep in mind that ALL spirit wear is considered uniform appropriate!

  3. Mabels Labels are a great way to keep track of your kids’ clothes, water bottles, etc. and they stick to anything.  Visit the website then click the “Support a Fundraiser” button located on the top of your screen, and then select St. Leo from the drop-down list.   A portion of your purchase will go back to the school.

As always feel free to contact me if ever you have concerns … or just want to share some great ideas … and don’t forget to check out our website at and follow us on twitter @stleosfun
