St Leo Newsletter - week ending October 14th

Good evening St. Leo Community!

I hope everyone had a fantastic week.  Below are the reminders and updates you need for next week.

Great job St Leo’s!

Congratulations and best of luck to Audrey in Grade 3 and Angelica in Grade 4, whose performance at the cross country divisionals qualified for the Regional Cross Country meet at Centennial Park thisThursday, October 20.  Go Lions!

The students and staff of St Leo’s raised $445 today towards the Haiti Relief fund.  Way to go!  CSPC will match this donation.

Thank you to St. Leo families for their generous donation of non-perishable food items for the Daily Bread Food Bank and the Good Sheppard Centre during the We Scare Hunger campaign.
The school executed its second fire drill today with great results.  All 300 children and all staff exited the building within 1 minute and 24 seconds!  Three fire drills are required in the first term so another will be happening in the coming weeks.

  • School photograph day is Monday October 17th!  Make sure your child is wearing the school uniform (Navy Blue and White) for photo day.
  • The 4th Annual St. Leo Cleanup Drive is scheduled for November 2nd, 9:15 am – 10:30 am.   Look for pledge forms in backpacks.  Donations over $25.00 will get a tax receipt (please note I had written earlier $10, but the value has gone up this year).  We are still looking for parent volunteers to help out. Please respond to this email if you are able to help or you have questions.  Thanks to those parents who have put their name forward so far.
  • The online store for spirit wear remains open featuring sweatshirts, hoodies, golf shirts, etc. with our new school crest.  The final order date for this first batch is Friday, October 28th.  Clothing will be delivered approximately two weeks later.  For those who would prefer to do a manual order or to try on sample sizes, Ms. LeBlanc will be available in the office on Fridays from 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm.
  • Mabels Labels are an amazing way to keep track of your kids’ clothes, water bottles, etc. and they stick to anything.  Visit the website then click the “Support a Fundraiser” button located on the top of your screen, and then select St. Leo from the drop-down list.   A portion of your purchase will go back to the school.

Halloween is around the corner.  Students are allowed to wear costumes or just Orange and Black on Halloween Day. As you prepare your costume, keep in mind that students will not have the opportunity to change into their costumes once at school – so come dressed.  No masks or props (weapons, wands, broom sticks, etc.) are allowed and most of all costumes must not be threatening for younger children.  As we are an allergen aware school, please do not send FOOD TREATS for your child to share at the Halloween class party.  There are many alternatives, such as pencils, small toys and stickers.

You may have noticed there has been no pizza day so far this year.   We aren’t able to have this service because we lack parent volunteers to run it.  Volunteering entails a couple of hours a week to take care of 1) paperwork and 2) being on hand when the pizzas arrive and are forwarded to the classes.  You don’t need to sign up for the year – but if you would like to step forward to run pizza day for a month or two, please respond to this email.

As always feel free to contact me if ever you have concerns … or just want to share some great ideas … and don’t forget to check out our website at and follow us on twitter @stleosfun

A big shout out to this week’s St Leo’s Community Partner of the week - Lilette Weins Real Estate.
