EcoTeam Update Earlier this week, due to safety considerations (icy conditions) regarding the rock seating in the learning garden, pylons were placed around the rocks, indicating to the students that jumping from rock to rock was not a safe activity. Students are aware that It is best that the rocks be used for seating. Teachers may continue to take the students outdoors and students may continue to use the learning garden area for play.
The wooden stumps were also relocated for safety and student well-being concerns. They are in various classrooms for the winter months. They will be returned to the outdoors in the spring.
Alexandria Pham (a local Real Estate Agent) has partnered with a group of families from the Lakeshore West Community (the Lakeshore Syrian Connection) to raise $30,000 in support of a Syrian family's first year in Canada. As parents, they hope to help one of the Syrian families find safety for their children. Their group, the Lakeshore Syrian Connection, is working with Lifeline Syria, an organization whose objective is to recruit, train and assist sponsors in welcoming and supporting Syrian refugees on their arrival and through the process of becoming permanent Canadian immigrants. In addition to financial support, they will provide community support by helping this family set up a home, access education and find employment.
Shayne Henderson will be on CBC News Network this Sunday to discuss the initiative. Please watch and support her!
